Carol Davila’s trip to Golești, in March 1861

March 1861: Ana Racoviță, a beautiful young girl with big black eyes, was expecting her future husband at the old mansion of her ancestors, in Golești village. She does not doubt his love, but she does not believe that his betrothed will arrive on the day of Annunciation as he had announced by letter. It had rained, and the journeys on the roads of Romania were an adventure. After any powerful rain, the carriages were stuck in the mud or forced to stop at the banks of the rivers, and wait for the high levels of water to drop. The brave doctor Carol Davila does not get discouraged, enters the fast waters of the Buzau River, arrives well on the other bank, and follows his journey, and arrives in Golești in time for the marriage with his beautiful fiancée.
