The Golești Museum of Viticulture and Fruit Growing marked 167 years since the Unification of the Romanian Principalities through a symposium dedicated to one of the most important moments in Romania’s modern history.
On Friday, January 23, 2026, starting at 12:30 PM, the conference hall of the Golești Manor hosted a cultural and educational event aimed at bringing back to public attention the historical significance of the Unification of the Principalities – Moldavia and Wallachia (1859), considered the first step toward the formation of the modern Romanian state.
The event program included the screening of the educational film “Behind the Scenes of the Union: Between Love and Betrayal”, a thematic presentation entitled “The Romanian Army and the Union”, delivered by members of the Argeș County Organization of the Association of Retired and Reserve Military Personnel “Basarab I”, as well as a recital by the “Mihai Viteazul” Veterans’ Choir from Pitești. The event concluded with the Hora of the Union, performed in front of the manor, a symbolic moment of communion and celebration of national unity.
The film “Behind the Scenes of the Union: Between Love and Betrayal” offered students an artistic perspective on the events preceding the Unification of the Romanian Principalities in 1859, focusing on political conflicts, moral dilemmas, and tensions among the figures of the period. Created as a dramatized historical reenactment, the film highlighted the fact that the Union was the result of difficult decisions and acts of courage and personal commitment, rather than a unanimous consensus. We congratulate and encourage the students of Ion Cantacuzino High School and Iulia Zamfirescu High School, as well as the students of the Acting Department of the University of Pitești, in the development of meaningful cultural and artistic projects.
Through this initiative, the Golești Museum offered the general public, students, and history enthusiasts the opportunity to reflect on the values that laid the foundation of the Romanian state and on the importance of national solidarity.
