On November 12, 2026, the Contemporary Art Gallery of the Golești Museum will open Interior Spaces, an exhibition featuring the works of Romanian painter Lidia Zadeh Petrescu.
Born in Craiova on December 27, 1967, Lidia Zadeh Petrescu graduated from Saint Sava National College in Bucharest in 1986. She went on to earn a degree from the Faculty of Automation at the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest in 1991, followed by a Master’s degree in Management and Communication in 1998.
Driven by her passion for artistic expression, she completed her studies in painting at the Bucharest School of Arts in 2021 and subsequently continued her artistic education at the Stati Art School of Painting.
Throughout her artistic career, Lidia Zadeh Petrescu has participated in numerous exhibitions held at prestigious cultural institutions and venues, including the National Military Circle (Foyer Hall), the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant, the Village Museum (Dimitrie Gusti Hall), the Romanian Academy Library, the Golești Museum, the Romanian Senate, Brâncoveanu Palace in Mogoșoaia, the Călărași Art Museum, Sinaia Casino (King Ferdinand Hall), FormART Art Gallery, the Sibiu Cultural Centre, the UAP Mihai Bravu Gallery, the Genoa Painting Biennale, and the Ion Mincu Institute of Architecture.
Lidia Zadeh Petrescu’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in what she describes as the “fascinating and infinite world” of design. For 27 years, she worked in product design, interior design, and later fashion design, developing a distinctive visual sensibility that continues to inform her artistic practice.
Speaking about the artist’s work, art critic Liliana Popa observes:
“The artist moves freely between figurative and non-figurative expression.
Her approach to composition reveals artistic intelligence, supported by a hand and mind that demonstrate a confident mastery of drawing…
While in her figurative works, atmosphere takes center stage beyond the landscape itself, with a wealth of visual elements evoking the season and time of day, in her abstract compositions, the fluidity of the brushstroke becomes the defining element of her artistic language. Movement acquires visibility, even a tangible presence, particularly through delicate flows of color.
Lidia’s portraits invariably turn their gaze upwards, sometimes lingering at the threshold between the visible world and the world beyond. The artist herself searches for answers and meaning through psalms, words, and the spiritual spaces of churches and monasteries that hold personal significance for her.
Whenever she moves beyond one artistic concept, she reinvents another, uniquely her own, incorporating carefully chosen numbers and layers of religious and philosophical symbolism…”
Lidia Zadeh Petrescu maintains her own painting studio in the heart of Bucharest, where she spends most of her time immersed in the creative process.
Her artistic practice is characterized by a layered approach to acrylic painting, combining intuitive abstraction with occasional recognizable figurative elements. Through this interplay between abstraction and representation, her works explore the expressive possibilities of color, texture, movement, and visual composition.
The exhibition Interior Spaces invites visitors to discover Lidia Zadeh Petrescu’s artistic universe at the Golești Museum, where it will remain open to the public until February 10, 2027.
