On Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 1:00 PM, the Golești Museum will host the opening of an exhibition featuring folk costumes from the collection of Maria Mirela Mitroiu—a passionate advocate for the traditions and cultural values of the Muscel region.
The exhibition brings together folk costumes passed down through generations—from great-grandmother to grandmother and mother—with Maria Mirela Mitroiu representing the fourth generation to safeguard this family heritage. Most of the pieces are over a century old, dating from the 1890–1945 period.
While the costumes originate primarily from the Muscel area—specifically the localities of Boteni, Mătău, Davidești, and Câmpulung—the collection also includes items from the Bistrița region.
A native of the commune of Boteni, Maria Mirela Mitroiu discovered her love for traditional crafts in childhood under the guidance of her grandmother, Ecaterina. Over the years, she has organized numerous exhibitions of folk costumes and needlepoint tapestries, dedicating herself to the preservation and promotion of these traditions.
A significant aspect of her cultural work is the folk art museum she established in her own home in Câmpulung, alongside her husband—the late writer, graphic artist, and humorist Gheorghe Mitroiu Muscel. The exhibition at the Golești Museum will also feature books authored by Mr. Mitroiu Muscel.
The event serves as an invitation to discover the beauty of traditional Romanian folk attire and a cultural legacy that has been carefully preserved across four generations.
