On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, the exhibition titled Silence / The Mute Scream, by visual artist Mihaela Cîmpeanu, will open in the Contemporary Art Hall of the Golești Museum.
Mihaela Cîmpeanu was born on April 8, 1981, in Băilești, Olt County, but lived in Craiova until the age of 19, after which she moved to Bucharest.
Her first steps toward art were guided by sculptor Vieriu Valerică, a drawing and modeling teacher at the Children’s Palace in Craiova.
In 1995, she was admitted to the “Marin Sorescu” Art High School, specializing in sculpture, in the class of Professor Emilian Popescu. After graduating from high school, she took the entrance exam for the Faculty of Arts in Bucharest but was not accepted, so she enrolled in a Journalism course, where she gained knowledge of photography and photojournalism while also working at the Buftea Film Studios.
In 2001, she was admitted to the Faculty of Fine Arts within the University of Fine Arts in Bucharest, specializing in sculpture, in the class of Professor Darie Dup, Ph.D. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she was accepted into and pursued a master’s program in sculpture under the guidance of Professor Mircea Spătaru, Ph.D.
In 2005, she became a teacher of volume studies, drawing, and art history. She taught at several high schools, including the “I.N. Socolescu” Technical College of Architecture and Public Works in Bucharest and the “Dimitrie Paciurea” Art High School in the same city.
Her first exhibition was a collective one, but of great significance: Paradise Lost, part of the 52nd Venice Biennale in 2007. This was followed by dozens of other exhibitions in both Romania and abroad.
In 2017, her career as a visual artist and art teacher took a small turn, as she dedicated all her time to nurturing and developing the beautiful and creative MAMA project, which includes three wonderful little ones. Even though her time was fully occupied, 24/7, with her three children, she still found opportunities to participate in group and collective exhibitions both in Romania and abroad, create book illustrations, and engage in various volunteer projects aimed at fostering the creative abilities of children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Currently, she is an art teacher at the Dimitrie Paciurea High School in Bucharest.
Mihaela Cîmpeanu is an artist who expresses her vision and emotions through sculpture-installation and painting. She explores universal themes such as inner struggle, marginalization, suffering, as well as hope and transformation. Each of her works reflects a combination of sensitivity and strength, profound thought, and a continuous exploration of form and material.
Mihaela Cîmpeanu’s artworks will be on display at Golești until May 4, 2025.
We warmly invite you to visit!
