The Museum of Viticulture and Pomiculture in Golești and Banat Village Museum invites you, Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., to the opening of the exhibition The Traditional Port of Banat. In this exhibition, you will find traditional costumes from the Banat plain, ornaments and photo-ethnographic documents from the Marius Matei Ethnographic Collection.

We bring to the Argeş audience an exhibition dedicated to the craftsmanship of women from Banat, creators of beauty. The ethnographic collection of Marius Matei counts over 3000 pieces, from the end of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. With passion, curiosity and rigorous study, museographer Marius Matei has built one of the most spectacular and valuable private collections of folk wear in Romania. Marius Matei’s activity reflects both respect for family tradition and the need for modern man to assert his identity by recovering the values of traditional art, which is the expression of the local creative force. The suits in this collection reveal beauty and passion, intelligence and inventiveness, talent and grace, leaning towards elegance and beauty.

The exhibition that will be opened at the Golești Museum talks about the immortal universal of the Romanian village of Banat, in a region rich in its multiculturalism. Banat has been, throughout the centuries, a place of meeting and interaction between different ethnic groups and cultures. Romanians, Serbs, Hungarians, Germans, Bulgarians, Roma and other minority communities live and coexist here. This ethnic diversity is the result of migrations, invasions and cultural exchanges that have occurred over time.
